White Room Sessions
While visiting Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art last Summer, I realized that it had been a very long time since I had experienced modern "Art" music. I grew up on the music of John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen etc, but hadn't gone to those musical places for quite sometime. Like many musicians, my days have become filled with the generation of music for specific design. What I now began to consider was a music project based on a non-cliche' approach to improvisation.
White Room Sessions
A few days after my museum visit, Chris stopped by for our occasional cup of coffee. Chris and I have an interesting relationship since he is not only an in-demand session/tour drummer out of Nashville, but also a former student of mine. I shared what I had been considering. I don't think he had ever consider working this side of the musical street before, but was willing to give it a try. My original goal was for some personal artistic growth for both Chris and myself. But as we pursued this approach to improv, we felt that we were getting some recordings that might be enjoyed by others as well.

White Room
So out of these sessions from Summer 2008, I've culled 50+ minutes of piano and drum improvisations. They are remarkably full sounding; complete with just the grand piano and drums. One experiences two musicians exploring the edges of their musicality as if you were present for these sessions. Both Chris and I are proud to be able to present these tracks to you for your listening enjoyment and we hope you find them refreshing and stimulating.
